“Getting Lost is Wonderful” is the title of the latest photographic project by Massimiliano
Pugliese, which aims to describe a very intimate and explorative emotional condition in human
This enigmatic work was born and developed starting from the fascinating cinematographic
and musical influences the author has explored for long time. He examined in depth different
emotional and exciting forms, giving rise to a fertile soil for the strongly personal
photographic imagination characterizing “Getting Lost is Wonderful”.
Suggestive scenarios in unknown time, always related to individual and human isolation,
carry ourselves into the most secret moments of restlessness, concern and confusion,
without ever showing them clearly. On the contrary, since the pictured situations are never
clearly revealed, we find ourselves suspending our judgment of such scenes, drifting
into a dark mystery.
Only in a second time, losing your way through the various pictures of “Getting Lost is
Wonderful” you realize that it is not important what happened before and what is going to
be next. The suspended transition between these two moments is just the real and leading
meaning of Massimiliano’s sinister and poetic visual narration.
Through a visionary aesthetic and master use of light and colours, we observe individuals’
solitude in huge night landscapes getting in touch with each other as if they were interchanging
the main role in the picture, therefore instilling a reasonable doubt in the observer:
is it the man to be lost and isolated in this suspended world or is it the whole world to
be totally created by the author himself?
The possibility to see and consider “Getting Lost is Wonderful” as an open and not totally
defined work gives anyone watching these latest pictures by Massimiliano Pugliese a genuine
sense of freedom.
